What comes back from one photo
Cellar identifies the bottle first, then attaches what is known about it:
- Producer, cuvée, vintage, region and grape
- An estimated market value, and how that value is trending
- Critic scores
- A suggested drinking window, and whether the bottle is inside it
- Food the wine goes with

Labels it can read

Older bottles are the hard case. Faded ink, stained paper and hand-written vintages read less reliably than a clean modern label, so those are the ones worth checking before you save.
Producers who use nearly identical labels across a standard bottling and a prestige cuvée are the other case to watch. Cellar reads the vintage and the cuvée line separately, which is usually enough to tell them apart.
Scanning is how the collection gets built
Every scan saves the bottle to your collection, so the record builds itself out of bottles you were already holding.
Scan one when you buy it, one when you rearrange a shelf, one when you open something worth remembering. After twenty you can stand in a shop and know what is already on the rack at home.
Wine labels carry more regulated information than most packaging, which is why a photograph is enough to identify a bottle at all. The anatomy of a wine label is worth knowing if you want to read one yourself.
